TOMS MULTI-SENSOR UNIVERSAL STABILIZED OPTRONIC STATION
 One of the new products offered by Yugoimport-SDPR and promoted with the project of upgraded M-84AB1 tank is TOMS or tank observation device used for surveillance, reconnaiscance and day and night sighting as well as in low-visibility conditions. The need for development of such a multi-spectral observation system was imposed by the modern battlefield; this need is most often marked as “situational awareness” in specialized foreign literature and could be translated into Serbian as “situaciona svesnost”. This term actually covers not only reliable and accurate information about one's own position in the battlefield, but also about target coordinates, types of targets, position of friendly and enemy troops etc. With their significantly improved communication technologies, new faster processors and robust software, contemporary armies tend to collect situational awareness data from various battlefield nodes (infantry troops, tanks and other combat vehicles, UAVs) in real time, with the aim of getting a reliable picture of the battlefield status. When connected to an appropriate communication subsystem, TOMS could also be positioned at the command post from where it could, by means of the C o m m a n d Information System and based on the target and combat platforms (tanks, selfpropelled launchers of PO missiles, infantry combat vehicles) data, forward the fire command together with firing data to the combat platform having the best firing position.

YUGOIMPORT – SDPR SAFE AND RELIABLE PARTNER
After many years of intensive activities in marketing and development of armaments and defense equipment (ADE), as we enter 2008 we are satisfied to conclude that the vision of Yugoimport-SDPR of the place of Serbian defense indus-try on global market finally obtains its realistic form. Intensive presence of Yugoimport-SDPR on global market, together with constant marketing and commercial support for pro-ductional and development programs of Serbian defense industry, investment in our own development projects -which are fundamental to the business strategy of Yugoimport-SDPR, give positive and visible results. 
We have asked Stevan Nikčević, director general of Yugoimport-SDPR who has successfully run the company for sixyears, to comment on its business activities and plans for immediate future.
What craracterises business operations ofYugoimport-SDPR and what are your immediate plans? Are you satisfied with achieved business results?
Yugoimport-SDPR is modern business system capable of quick reaction and adjustment to the trends on global mar-ket of armaments and defense equipment (ADE). Lately, the company extends and changes its basic mission - from state-owned marketing and commercial enterprise it devel-ops into "system enterprise" integrating and rounding up complete processes of market research, development, pro-duction, promotion and sale of complex ADE, based on inte-gration of own resources with the resources of Serbian defense industry, intitutions and institutes of the Ministry of Defense (Military Technical Institute, Technical Tets Center, overhaul depots and General Staff), as well as in cooperation with foreign technological partners. This mar-keting and development strategy gives satisfactory results. Within the past few years we note constant growth of sale by approximately 20 per cent; therefore, our expectations for 2008 are optimistics. We hope that Yugoimport-SDPR and Serbian defense industry will reach the level of production and export sale adequate to realistic potentials of our defense industry.
As for the results achieved in 2006 and 2007, we are very satisfied with them, because annual turnover we have accom-plished is approximately 40 per cent higher compared with those accomplished in 2006. If we compare statistical data for the period 2002 - 2006, we note growth of contracting by 220 per cent, and export performance by 160 per cent. Also, the turnover completed within past two years is the highest since 1992. Our ori-entation for the forthcomming year is to increase export and contract many new business deals for our defense industry, and for all of us who take part in ADE export.

Serbia and its defense industry do have products which can be compared with those of renowned manufacturers as far as quality, contemporary design and original construc¬tion solutions are concerned.
Product quality is obtained by recognition of certain values and investment in them. These values do not appear by accident. Continuous effort is requested for their improvement. The highest value of Serbia are people – the experts in whose education and special¬ization Serbia constantly invests; the experts capable of inventing, designing and manufacturing products and programs such as, for instance, Nora-B/52 sys¬tem, M21 rifle, MS-MLRS multiple rocket system, army command-informative system, TOMS optoelec¬tronic system, M84 tank and its modernization, to name but few.

Ever since the idea for establishing the armaments and defense equipment  exhibition was conceived in the Serbian Ministry of Defense and the Belgrade Fair, Yugoimport-SDPR has been fully supporting its implementation. This year, for the third time in a row, we shall take up the role of a co-organizer, making full arrangements for this manifestation. Main mission of Yugoimport-SDPR is to represent Council of Ministers, Ministry of Defence and Defence Industry of Serbia and Montenegro in the sphere of export and import of armament and defence equipment, overhaul, upgrade and joint development of aerospace and defence systems as well as technology transfer, design, building and equipping defence infrastructure object and personnel training and education.
